India’s First Day-Night Test
India’s first day-night Test was played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. This was the first time when Team India played cricket with a pink ball. To mark the special occasion, the entire city of Kolkata shimmered in a pink hue. The new BCCI chief Saurav Ganguly is the brain behind the first-ever day-night Test.

Pink ball or pink cherry is used due to better visibility during the night as compared to red balls. Under the yellow floodlights, the red ball takes the brownish colour that resembles the pitch creating an illusion for the cricket players. Even white balls aren’t of much use because they deteriorate fast as compared to pink balls.
