What is Gross National Happiness (GNH)?
Gross National Happiness(GNH) is an index used to measure the collective happiness and well-being of the population in a country. This term was coined in 1972 when the King of Bhutan had an interview with a British journalist, during which he stated that Gross National Happiness is more important than Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In 2011, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly urged the member nations to follow the example of Bhutan and measure the well-being of the population. In 2012, 20th March was declared as the International Day of Happiness by the UN.
