Darren Sammy, the Caribbean cricketer, was conferred with the highest civilian award “Nishan-e-Pakistan” on 23 March 2020 by Pakistan. Further, it also extended honorary citizenship to him for his contribution to the return of international cricket to Pakistan after the massive terrorist attack on Srilanka’s cricket team in Lahore, Pakistan in 2009.

• Darren Sammy represented the West Indies International cricket team, and he is the only captain to have won two T20 world cups.
• Matthew Hayden (Australia) and Herschelle Gibbs (South Africa) were the only two other cricketers who had been given honorary citizenships by the St Kitts government after the 2007 World Cup.
• Morarji Desai, the ex-Prime Minister of India, was the only Indian to be awarded Nishan-e-Pakistan, the highest civilian award of Pakistan.
